Conversion or transformation of a sentence implies changing grammatical form of a sentence from one to another without changing its meaning. It can be done in one of the following ways :

EXERCISE 1 :
Change the following sentences as directed without changing their sense:
- The audience listened to the leader with patience. (Use Adverb of ‘patience’)
- The child resembles his mother. (Use Noun of ‘resembles’)
- At last he was successful in his venture. (Use Verb of ‘successful’)
- She moved towards the stage slowly. (Use Adjective of ‘slowly’)
- It is impossible for him to revert at this stage. (Use noun of ‘revert’)
- The project is progressing satisfactorily. (Use Adjective of ‘satisfactorily’)
- She hopes that she will meet him soon. (Use hopeful for ‘hopes’)
- It is not allowed to slay animals in the city. (Use Noun of ‘Slay’)
- His parents are lucky to have a son who obeys them. (Use adjective of ‘obey’)
- He has made corrections in all of these sentences. (Use verb of ‘corrections’)
EXERCISE 2 :
Remove “too” and rewrite the following sentences in simple form without changing their meaning:
- It is never too late to mend.
- The child is too young to understand this.
- The room was too small to accommodate all of us.
- She was too tired to continue her journey.
- The old man is too weak to carry this load.
- He is too wise to be deceived.
- The loaf is too hot for me to eat.
- The old woman is too jealous.
- The trader is too greedy.
- The tree is too high for the child to climb.
EXERCISE 3 :
Change the following sentences as directed without changing their sense:
- He was astonished that she refused his proposal.
(Use noun of ‘refuse’) - He made an agreement with her to complete the job.
(Use verb of ‘agreement’) - They were amused to accept our proposal.
(Use noun of ‘amused’) - A violent mob appeared at the scene all of a sudden.
(Use adverb of ‘sudden’) - The boy succeeded in the examination by dint of hard work.
(Use adverb of ‘succeeded’) - The cost of these ornaments is very high.
(Use verb of ‘cost’) - The end of this story is very humorous.
(Use noun of ‘humorous’) - The host greeted all the guests with affection.
(Use adverb of ‘affection’) - The statement issued by the chairman cleared all the doubts.
(Use adverb of ‘cleared’) - Splinters of bomb inflicted injuries on her body.
(Use verb of ‘injuries’)
EXERCISE 4 :
Change the following sentences as directed without changing their sense:
- I hold a different opinion than yours.
( Use verb of ‘different’) - Too many cooks spoil the broth.
(Remove too) - You should take your examination confidently.
(Use noun of ‘confidently’) - The doctor treated the patient with care.
(Use adverb of ‘care’) - Children did not take their bath daily in winter.
(Use verb of ‘bath’) - Shakespeare is admitted to be a great poet and dramatist.
(Use adverb of ‘admitted’) - It is never too late to mend.
(Remove ‘too’) - His activities have disgraced the name of his family.
(Use noun of ‘disgraced’) - His brother is very popular among his friends.

Change the following sentences as directed without changing their sense:
- She turned down our proposal politely.
( Use adjective of ‘politely’) - Too much eating has told upon his health.
(remove ‘too’ ) - The old man did not intend to do any harm to the family.
(Use adverb of ‘intend’) - People of India can move freely throughout the country.
(Use noun of ‘freely’) - All the members of his family had a narrow escape in the accident.
(Use verb of ‘escape’ & adverb of ‘narrow’) - Despite his hard work he could not be successful in the examination.
( Use adverb of ‘successful’ ) - His parents wanted to admit the child in a play-way school.
(Use noun of ‘admit’) - The chairman raised his point of view in the meeting with emphasis.
(Use adverb of ’emphasis’) - Too much rain in winter causes damage to wheat crops.
(Remove ‘too’) - The Reserve Bank of India has imposed restrictions on withdrawal of money from bank accounts.
